Coaching and Referee Training Initiative

You can’t be what you can’t see.  The North Carolina Trailblazers Women’s Hockey Association is launching an initiative to bring more women into coaching and refereeing ice hockey in the Triangle.  As part of Hockey Across America week, we asked our membership what experience they had with coaching, refereeing, and more.  While we found we had a number of members volunteering with the Polar House League, the Carolina Junior Hurricanes, the Carolina Stars, and Triangle Special Hockey, we thought there was an opportunity to do more.

For the 2019-2020 season, the Trailblazers are launching a campaign to help more women get involved in their ice hockey community by becoming USA Hockey certified coaches and referees.  We will promote a fundraising initiative with the proceeds going to cover the clinic registration fees for women in the Triangle area.  We will guarantee at least six scholarships to be given during the 2019-2020 season, but will expand that number if the fundraising efforts allow us to do so.

The process for applying for a coaching/referee clinic scholarship with the NC Trailblazers:
